Core winding of paper and materials

Core winding prepares paper, board and selected paper materials on an inner tube. The core stabilises the winding and allows the finished roll to be mounted on a shaft, unwind stand, applicator or production machine.

Choose core winding when the process requires a defined inner diameter, repeatable roll parameters and stable material handling.

When to choose core winding?

  • when the roll must run on a shaft, unwind stand or applicator,
  • when equipment requires a specific core diameter,
  • when preparing smaller rolls from larger reels,
  • when repeatable width, diameter and winding are critical,
  • for packing, production, logistics and further converting.

Applications of core winding

Application Example use Key benefit
Packing packing paper rolls for wrapping products smooth operation on unwind stands
Production auxiliary material rolls for machines stable material feeding
Converting preparation for further processing matched roll format for equipment
Warehouse & logistics rolls for protection and separation easy handling and transport
E-commerce material rolls for packing stations organised packing workflow

Core winding versus other services

Service When to choose Main function
Core Winding roll needs a core for shaft/unwind stand roll preparation with inner tube
Coreless Winding no core required compact roll without tube
Slitting material width must change division into narrower strips/rolls
Rewinding length, diameter or winding direction must change new winding preparation
Sheeting material required in sheets cutting to sheet format
Paper Converting multiple operations needed preparation for direct use

Key parameters for core wound rolls

Parameter Defines
Material type winding method and application
Roll width match to product, workstation or machine
Winding length or weight material amount per roll
Outer diameter equipment compatibility and handling
Core diameter fit to shaft, unwind stand or applicator
Winding direction material feed direction in process
Packing protection in transport and storage

How to request a quotation?

Provide material type, current format, required roll width, core diameter, outer diameter, winding length or weight, quantity, winding direction, tolerances, packing method and intended use. If the material will run on equipment, include shaft, unwind stand or core requirements.

If you also need to change material width, specify input and finished widths so core winding can be combined with slitting.

Core Winding — FAQ

Can core winding prepare smaller rolls from a larger reel?

Yes. Finished roll parameters are agreed based on input material and further application.

Can core winding be combined with slitting?

Yes. Slitting establishes the required width, then core winding prepares rolls with agreed parameters.

Is a core always required?

No. Core use depends on material and workstation/equipment requirements. Where no inner tube is needed, coreless winding is available.
